Sociale media zijn erg belangrijk geworden. Het kan nieuwe kansen geven voor je liefdesleven, werkzame leven. Het helpt veel mensen om hun vriendenkring “te onderhouden”. Wie op het internet komt, komt in aanraking met sociale netwerken.

Het krijgen van “toegang” tot de sociale media is echter niet voor iedereen weggelegd. Wat als je niet zo goed kunt lezen? Wat als je een lichte verstandelijke handicap hebt? Wat als je visueel gehandicapt bent? Hoe gebruiksvriendelijk de bestaande sociale media ook zijn, bepaalde groepen binnen de samenleving worden buitengesloten.

Een aantal jaren geleden heb ik het project “Down on the web” geïnitieerd om te onderzoeken in hoeverre Hyves gebruiksvriendelijk te maken is voor mensen met een verstandelijke beperking. De komende tijd hoop ik binnen het Sociale media lectoraat de kans te krijgen dit onderzoek op een gedegen manier voort te zetten. Technische ontwikkelingen zoals Touch apparaten/ Apps en de apis van de sociale netwerken geven veel aanknopingspunten om nieuwe groepen toegang te geven tot sociale netwerken.

A couple of years ago I had this nice idea of creating a service that makes it easy to schedule meetings with busy people. The basic concept:

The person in demand will create time slots. And the people that want an appointment, just pick a slot. No communication burden for both parties anymore! I created wannac.me for the service and only used it to scratch my own itch.

Sometime ago Google added time slots to Google Calendar making wannac.me obsolete. I still feel that the basic web service I created would be really useful for small businesses, if I would just choose a better and smaller market. The Google solution is great for geeks, but what about people that just want an appointment with a dentist or a hairdresser?

For now I will work on tweetexposure.com and striim.it.
